In the city of Tokyo's Azabu district, where difficult-to-reserve restaurants are increasing one after another, "Crony" stands prominently near Shiba Park, offering a view of Tokyo Tower. It is a French restaurant that has been awarded two Michelin stars and a Green Star in the 2023 edition of the Michelin Guide Tokyo.
Co-founded by Kazutaka Ogawa, who served as the manager of the three-star restaurant "Quintessence" for many years, and Michihiro Haruta, who honed his skills at renowned restaurants around the world. As the chef, Haruta trained at establishments such as "Quintessence," the three-star "Ledoyen" in Paris, the three-star "Saison" in San Francisco, the three-star "MAAEMO" in Norway, and the one-star "KADEAU" in Denmark. He also served as the chef at the acclaimed one-star restaurant "TIRPSE" in Shirokanedai, where he achieved a Michelin star at a record-breaking speed. Haruta is a talented and experienced chef.
The dishes he creates are full of seasonal flavors, all expressing gratitude to the ingredients and producers. The course starts with a cup of tea and unfolds with dishes that showcase ingredients sourced from various regions in Japan, with consideration for the environment. One notable feature is the emphasis on bread as a main component of the course. The famous San Francisco sourdough bread is perfectly baked with a crispy exterior and a soft, chewy interior. While in San Francisco, it is typically paired with beer for added flavor, at Crony, they infuse the aroma using Japanese sake. Furthermore, to address food waste, they make butter using unconsumed sake lees, which is then served as a specialty alongside the bread. Kazutaka Ogawa's expert pairing enhances the overall dining experience.
The course menu evolves gradually, with a complete overhaul of all dishes approximately every two months, reflecting the changing seasons.
The interior of the restaurant features high ceilings with large windows, earth walls, organic wooden furniture, and pleasant lighting, creating an elegant and warm ambiance suitable for any occasion.
